SC asks BTC candidates to submit petition

Petitioners contend that B.ED candidates have not completed 6 months course required to qualify as an assistant teacher and therefore can be recruited only as trainee teachers.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed a group of Basic Teacher Certificate (BTC) trained candidates to submit in the court the petition pending before the Allahabad High Court pertaining to inclusion of B.ED teachers as assistant teachers and adjourned the hearing for July 13.

The court was hearing a plea by the group of BTC trained candidates who challenged the UP government's 28th June 2018, notification for the examination of assistant teachers for 69,000 posts. Petitioners contend that B.ED candidates have not completed 6 months course required to qualify as an assistant teacher and therefore can be recruited only as trainee teachers.

Actually, the UP government had passed an amendment in 2019 granting retrospective effect to the inclusion if B.ED candidates as assistant teachers which was challenged before the Allahabad High Court along with the plea challenging the inclusion of B.ED candidates.

The High Court had ruled in the favour of B.ED candidates which is now challenged before the top court.
