Police monitors Tablighi Jamaat as few members are tested positive for coronavirus
After over 200 people of Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi were quarantined, police have been looking for people who may have come in contact with them while they organised religious activities across India in the past few weeks. Few of them have already been found coronavirus positive.
New Delhi: Tablighi Jamaat of Delhi, from where over 200 people, suspected to be coronavirus affected, were admitted to various hospitals of the city, may have more people staying there, official sources said on Monday.
They told ETV Bharat here that there could be over one thousand more people staying in the congregation. On Sunday, over 200 people were sent for quarantine in different hospitals and other medical facilities after reports emerged that there were large number of people, including some foreign nationals, staying in close proximity.
They were being tested for coronavirus, while six of them had already been found to be affected by the deadly virus.
The sources said that the area has been sealed and the building was being monitored by drones as there could be more people inside the structure. The authorities are also looking for people who may have come in contact with the jamat for any religious activity during the past few weeks.
Tablighi Jamaat, with an aim of spreading Islam across the world, is active in over 200 countries.
