Police draw links between Delhi riots and Tablighi Jamaat in chargesheet

Crime Branch of Delhi Police in its chargesheet has indicated clear connection between North-East Delhi riots and Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz incident.

New Delhi: The investigation into the horrifying Delhi riots of February has led to a major development wherein the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has in its fresh chargesheet claimed that in the riots that broke out near Rajdhani School in Shiv Vihar area of North-East Delhi, the owner of the school, Faisal Farooque, visited the ‘Deoband’ and had connections with the Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz.

“His (Faisal’s) call detail analysis and links with prominent members of Popular Front of India, Pinjratod group, Jamia Coordination Committee, Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz and some other fundamental muslim clerics including Deoband also show the depth of the conspiracy,” the police mentioned in their chargesheet filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Richa Parihar, according to news agency IANS.

The chargesheet categorically states that Farooque visited Deoband on February 23, a day before the violence started in Shiv Vihar and neighboring areas.

Massive clashes broke out in North-East Delhi on February 24 outside Rajdhani School where another school, DRP Convent and a nearby sweet shop were burnt down in which a man was trapped inside and died. As many as 18 people, including Farooque, were arrested in connection to this incident.

“The rioters had camped inside and fired bullets from the terrace of Rajdhani School. They also threw petrol bombs, acid, bricks, stones and other missiles using an improvised large iron catapult, specially installed for the purpose, from the terrace of Rajdhani School,” the Delhi Police said.

The chargesheet claims that Farooque had plotted a conspiracy to exacerbate the violence in the area and on his instructions, the mob destroyed DRP Convent School, two parking lots and Anil Sweets.

“On the day of riots, i.e. 24.2.2020, many children from Muslim families left the school early, along with their parents, during the half time recess itself. Six empty cartridge shells, glass bottles that were used for making Molotov cocktails, rope and iron catapult recovered from the terrace of Rajdhani School,” the chargesheet read.(IANS report)
