Reports suggest the Indian fighter jet has shot down a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) F-16 that had come close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

The aircraft fell 3 kilometres inside Pakistani-administered Kashmir. As the PAF jets approached the LoC, IAF scrambled fighters and the retaliatory fire from the ground forced the F-16s to return but not before one took the hit and went down.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also chaired a high-level meeting in the national capital to discuss internal security, a day after the Indian Air Force (IAF) bombed the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror outfit's biggest training camp in Pakistan.

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Intellligence Bureau chief Rajiv Jain, Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) chief Anil Kumar Dhasmana were present in the meeting along with other senior officials.

The issues discussed in the meeting included the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir, intelligence inputs after Tuesday's air strikes and further strategy, said sources.

Meanwhile, all air space in Jammu and Kashmir was sealed. Flight operations in many airports in North India was also temporarily suspended.
