New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) demand to have simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections seem to be gaining momentum once again with the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) discussing the prospects of instituting a common voter's list for all elections in the country.
According to sources, in the meeting held on August 13 issues like making necessary amendments in the constitution to ask state governments to adopt the Election Commission’s voters list for municipal and panchayat elections were discussed.
'One Nation, One Election' is back on PM's table PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, chaired the meeting, they added. Modi had tried to push this idea during his first term also but some of the political parties had opposed the idea of having simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and assemblies in the states.

However, many committees and institutions have time and again spoken in favour of simultaneous elections saying it will save time, money and energy.
Trinamool Congress had opposed the concept saying it is impractical and unconstitutional but parties like Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) had liked the idea.
