Odd-Even Rule: Violators to be fined with Rs 20,000?

The Delhi government had reannounced the implementation of the odd-even rule in the state from November 4 and the supposed fine for the violation of this rule under the Motor Vehicle Act is Rs 20,000. The rule is a rationing scheme to bring down the pollution caused by vehicular emissions.

New Delhi:The state government is re-implementing the odd-even rule in Delhi from November 4 and the fine for whoever violates the rule will be reportedly Rs 20,000.

Earlier, in January and April of 2016, the Arvind Kejriwal government had announced the implementation of this rule for the first time.

The fine for the violation of the rule at that time was Rs 2,000.

Officials working on the implementation have stated that the amount of fine is not yet final. But under the amended Motor Vehicle Act applicable from September 1, there is a provision of fine of Rs 20,000 for such a violation.

It is up to the state government to amend the provision and lower the amount of fine.

The odd-even rule is a rationing scheme to bring down the pollution caused by vehicular emissions.

Under this rule, cars with licence plates ending in odd numbers and even numbers are allowed to run on roads on alternate days, except for the weekends.
