Nursing officer becomes first AIIMS staffer to donate plasma

Bhallaram Purohit, who works in the emergency ward of AIIMS had contracted COVID-19 while on duty. After being discharged he donated his plasma for an elderly COVID-19 patient.

New Delhi: A nursing officer, Bhallaram, who had contracted COVID-19 infection while on duty at AIIMS on April 30 and was subsequently treated has become the first person from the staff of AIIMS to donate plasma.

After he got infected he was referred to Jhajjar campus for further treatment where he stayed for 14 days and eventually defeated the virus and tested negative on 15 May 2020.

Originally a resident of Rajasthan, Bhallaram Purohit is working in the Emergency Department of AIIMS.

Bhallaram donated his plasma for an elderly COVID-19 patient on June 15 who was admitted in the ICU ward of Medanta Hospital in a critical condition.

Bhallaram's plasma has increased the patient's chances of getting healthier.

Bhallaram has become an inspiration for other people who also want to donate their plasma.
