It's unfortunate that Delhi is flooded today. This situation doesn't come as a surprise to me as the present government has not spent any money on building infrastructure in the city. CM had promised to make Delhi a world-class city, Gautam Gambhir, BJP MP from East Delhi said.

BJP MP and former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir took aim at the AAP government for the Delhi flood situation.

New Delhi: BJP MP and former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir took a jibe at the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government on the waterlogging issue saying that it's unfortunate to see the National capital flooded today. This situation doesn't come as a surprise to me as the present government has not spent any money on building the infrastructure of the city. However, the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had promised to make Delhi a world-class city, Gautam Gambhir, BJP MP from East Delhi said.

It's shameful to see the infrastructure of the whole city crumbling. AAP's govt has failed to tackle all the hurdles from pollution to covid to monsoon. The Parliamentarian who was speaking to ANI wondered as to what the government was doing in the past nine years. The focus of this government was only to do freebie politics and to blame the ruling party in the Centre for everything. The former India cricketer said that not a single rupee has been spent towards the development of infrastructure.

Gambhir mocked the Delhi Education Minister Atishi Singh and AAP MLA from Kalkaji, Delhi, for her remarks. Earlier while visiting the waterlogged areas, Atishi claimed that the PWD was prepared to handle 100 mm of rainfall this season, but the unexpected 150 mm downpour on last Saturday, July 8 rendered the pumping capacity inadequate.

I can see the lives of people running small shops in the city ruined due to the flooding. Floodwaters have entered their establishments and have caused undue hardships to them, he said, adding that people from all over the country came to Delhi to make a living and only to lose it.

Taking aim on freebies and advertisements of AAP regime, Gambhir said the government is left with no money to spend on infrastructure. “Being a resident of Delhi, I have not seen such a miserable condition of the city as it has been in the past nine years,”

"When I met the LG(Lt-Governor) of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, I learnt that he has a great vision for the development of Delhi. The L-G said that this is not the time to blame each other and to work together. But work together with whom? One who has no vision and plan for Delhi, Gambhir asked. “If you had all these, then the entire Delhi would stand by your side. No MP, MLA or chief minister is suffering today, the public is.”

The Weather Bureau has warned of more rains in the capital and upper catchment areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rain in the city for the next two days. It has predicted "heavy to very heavy" rainfall over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh during the next five days. This has raised further concerns about rise in water level.

The Central Water Commission's flood-monitoring portal recorded the Yamuna water level as 207.62 metres at 7 am Saturday. It has declined from its peak of 208.66 metres at 8 pm on Thursday. The Delhi government officials hope that the level will decline further with the flow rate from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana's Yamunanagar decreasing over the past two days.
