Gang stealing luxury cars arrested in Delhi

At least four car robbers who targeted high-end vehicles in and around Delhi were arrested. Police recovered six luxury SUVs and a haul of car breaking tools, including digital devices from them.

New Delhi: Police in Delhi have busted an inter-state gang of auto-lifters who stole luxury cars from Delhi, UP, Bihar and NCR on demand. As many as four accused have been arrested in connection with the case. Six luxury SUVs, digital lock breaking tools, a large number of duplicate keys, car locks and Engine Control Modules (ECM) of different brands of cars were recovered from them.

The accused have been identified as Mohd. Sajid, Sonu, Akash and Munna Khan. All of them have a history of crime while Sajid alone has 15 cases registered against him in Bihar.

The police team got a lead after a luxury car was stolen on September 2 from Chattarpur Enclave in New Delhi.

Three different teams of six sub-inspectors from Maidan Garhi police station were formed, including SHO Jatan Singh, Outpost Incharge SI Umesh Yadav, SI Ram Singh.

During the investigation, the teams scanned CCTV footage of nearby places and found that two-three people came in an auto and stole the vehicle within minutes by using car breaking tools.

After technical surveillance, the driver of the auto was located. During interrogation, he disclosed the names of his associates Sajid and Sonu.

Later, both Sajid and Sonu were arrested and five stolen cars and a large number of digital lock breaking tools along with master keys, digital tab, car locks and ECMs were seized from them.

"The interrogation revealed that the accused used to steal cars on-demand from their gang-leader named Pintu in Bihar and he is being traced," said DCP South Atul Thakur.

"Pintu's driver used to take the vehicles to Bihar where the stolen vehicles were sold with the fake documents after their chassis and registration number were replaced with the numbers and documents of scrapped cars. A fake sale letter was also issued to the buyer of the stolen car to avoid chances of getting caught in future. Pintu used to charge a huge amount for vehicles and the four accused were given one lakh for each theft," police said.
