New Delhi: Congress National General Secretary Tariq Anwar said that increasing population is a matter of concern but this population is our capital. If the central government has to bring a population control law across the country, then it should talk to all the parties on this issue. The senior Congress leader added that the central government should take the opinion of all the parties on this and the decision should be taken unanimously.
He added that during the Emergency in 1974-75, Sanjay Gandhi had talked about a law to control the population and the BJP opposed it the most. This became the main issue of the Lok Sabha elections in 1977 and the Congress was defeated.

The veteran Congress leader further said that the Yogi government in UP brought the population control law. There is an election in UP next year and before that this law has been brought. This is proving that the Yogi government is doing such things to divert the attention of the public from its failure in UP. Law and order have collapsed in UP, unemployment is high, the condition of the farmers is in bad shape. Such a step has been taken to divert attention from these issues.
