New Delhi: Hours after Sanjaya Baru, former media advisor to Ex-PM Manmohan Singh, filed a complaint against an alleged online fraud of Rs 24,000, South Delhi police on Sunday arrested one person in this connection.

The incident happened when Baru, who was looking for home delivery of liquor, came across a vendor 'La Cave Wine and Spirit' on Facebook and ordered alcohol for home delivery.

Baru, was cheated after he found the contact number of a representative of the shop online, who asked him to transfer Rs 24,000 through online payment for order. However, after the transaction, the phone number of the wine shop was switched off. Following which, Baru filed a complaint at Delhi's Hauz Khaz police station.

After the complaint, police tracked down the contact number and arrested the accused Ariq Javed from Rajasthan, who has carried out multiple online frauds in the past.

As per information received, the associates of the accused were running multiple bank accounts and using sim cards under fake names in various states, so that police could not trace them.

Within minutes the money used to be diverted into their bank accounts of different states, and later into their account.

The accused is being interrogated and investigation into the matter is underway.
