Man held for trying to smuggle psychotropic drugs to US

A man, who was running a pharma export firm in Chennai, was arrested for trying to send psychotropic drugs illegally to the US. A Chennai customs team arrested him and seized 455 tablets of the drugs.

New Delhi: Chennai customs team has arrested a man, who tried to smuggle psychotropic drugs, and recovered 455 tablets that were being sent to the US.

A Delhi customs official told media persons here that 20 strips of Alprazolam, 155 tablets of Clonazepam, Diazepam and Lorazepam were recovered from the two parcels.

He said the accused runs a pharma export firm and was exporting these drugs without the required license.

One needs a separate license to export or import psychotropic drugs, he said, adding that the accused was doing it illegally and got caught.

Further probe is on in the matter, he added.
