Nithari killings: Koli sentenced to death in 12th case

Surinder Koli, who has been convicted and sentenced to death in 11 cases of rape and murder of women in Noida's Nithari village, was today handed down capital punishment in the 12th case against him.

New Delhi/Ghaziabad: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Ghaziabad on Friday held prime accused in the Nithari murders Surinder Koli guilty in the 12th case and sentenced him to death.

The court announced the sentence against Koli, the domestic help of Noida businessman Moninder Singh Pandher.

The case was related to the murder of a 20-year-old woman and destruction of evidence in the crime.

The court also fined Koli a sum of Rs 70,000.

However, the court acquitted Pandher in the case.

The CBI court has passed its judgment on 12 out of the total 17 cases related to the Nithari killings. The judgment on the remaining five cases is expected soon.

The trial for the remaining cases is currently underway in the court, and Koli can be hanged only after the pending cases reach a conclusion.

Charged with raping and killing 16 girls and women in 2005-06 and in some cases, cannibalism, Koli was convicted and sentenced to death in 11 cases earlier.

The ghastly killings came to light in December 2006 following discovery of human remains from a drain behind Pandher's house in Nithari village in Noida.
