Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigating the suspected suicide case of Mahant Narendra Giri grilled the key accused Anand Giri for eight hours at Haridwar on Wednesday. The team headed by a DIG rank official had taken Giri to Haridwar for the recovery of his laptop, cell phone and documents relevant to the case.

After landing in Hardiwar from Uttar Pradesh, the team took Giri to Ganga Vikram Ashram directly from Jollygrant Airport. The ashram was earlier sealed by the administration following the suspected suicide of Narendra Giri. The CBI seized a laptop and mobile from the ashram. The CBI also investigated the CCTV cameras installed in the ashram. Haridwar police officers were also present in the ashram. The CBI also grilled a businessman in the case for 20 minutes. The man had sold a mobile to Anand Giri month ago.

Mahant Narendra Giri, president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, allegedly died by suicide on September 20 under suspicious circumstances. A multi-page suicide note was recovered from his room, in which three names were mentioned who allegedly forced him to kill self. They are Swami Anand Giri, a disciple of Mahant Narendra Giri, Aadya Tiwari, the chief priest of Lete Hanuman temple, and Sandeep Tiwari, son of Aadya Tiwari. Meanwhile, Mahant's followers are refusing to accept that he had died by suicide.

The joint secretary of Allahabad High Court Bar Association had also filed a petition for a CBI investigation into the suspicious death of Narendra Giri. Several political parties, including the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, also had demanded a CBI inquiry. After getting approval from the Centre, the CBI took over the investigation.
