Kejriwal meets members of Valmiki community who converted to Buddhism

Members of the Valmiki community who reportedly converted to Buddhism in Ghaziabad to protest against Hathras case met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday. Meanwhile, this case has again brought focus on the precarious situation of the Dalits.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday met members of the Valmiki community who reportedly converted to Buddhism in Ghaziabad to protest against Hathras case.

After the meeting, AAP leader Sanjay Singh shared pictures of Kejriwal with members of the community on Twitter.

"There is no justice for Dalits under the rule of Adityanath. Incidents like the murder of Dalits are happening; Dalit society is suffering. People of the Valmiki community who have left Hindu religion over the Hathras scandal met CM of Delhi @ArvindKejriwal and shared their pain," Singh tweeted.

Speaking to media persons about the meeting, Singh said, "People belonging to the socially backward Valmiki community, who have reportedly embraced Buddhism in Ghaziabad today met Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. While discussing with the people, we got to know that they have been hurt by the Hathras incident. They also said even though they have been facing financial distress, the government hasn't heard their woes."

"CM Kejriwal also assured the locals that he will come to the Karera village and he will personally meet every people of the community. Such incidents are happening because of the dictatorship of the Yogi Adityanath government," he said.

The Hathras incident led to protests across the country with people from different sections of society demanding justice for the victim. Meanwhile, this case has again brought focus on the precarious situation of the Dalits.
