While addressing the event, Dr Harshvardhan congratulated Indian Railways for starting this initiative.

Remembering the Kargil martyrs, he said, "The Kargil war was quite difficult technically, but due to the strong efforts of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the bravery of Indian Army, we won it."

He also mentioned about the achievements of Indian Railways and appreciated the development of the New Delhi Railway Station.

Speaking to media, State Railway Minister, Suresh Angadi said, "This initiative of Indian Railways will make everyone remember about Kargil War and people will remember the martyrs of that war. We want people to remember this day every time they look at the trains."

The Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after 'Operation Vijay', marks the victory of India over Pakistan during the Kargil War in 1999. It is celebrated on July 26 every year.

The Indian Army has planned celebratory events across the country from July 25-27.

Under this initiative, 700 train coaches will have vinyl wrapping with pictures of Kargil Vijay Diwas, to remember and honour Kargil martyrs.
