India will benefit from Trump's remarks on Modi: BJP spokesperson

New Delhi:Hailing the 'Howdy Modi' event in Houston as unprecedented, top BJP leaders said it has left an indelible footprint of a stronger India on the world map. BJP national spokesperson Gopal Agarwal in an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat said that Trump's remark on Modi as the 'father of India' must be taken as an appreciation instead of criticism.

Trump had on Tuesday heaped praise on Modi, saying "I remember India before was very torn. There was a lot of dissension, fighting and he brought it all together. Like a father would. Maybe he is the father of India."

"The event further gave an assurance to India that the two(USA and India) countries will fight global terrorism together. It is a matter of pride for our country. I don't see why this should be criticised," Agarwal said.

The Congress has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of violating Indian foreign policy's "time-honoured principle" of not interfering in the domestic elections of another country by campaigning for US President Donald Trump at the HowdyModi event in Houston.

In a series of tweets, Congress senior spokesperson Anand Sharma said Modi was in the US as India's prime minister and not a star campaigner in the US elections.

While reacting to these accusations Agarwal said that Modi is working to strengthen ties with the country and this must be taken in a good light as it will benefit India in the long run.
