Home ministry in touch with state govt over PRC to 6 communities: Rijiju

Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said Home Minister Rajnath Singh and he had spoken to governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) and CM Pema Khandu over the situation in Arunachal Pradesh. He also clarified that the state government was unable to communicate the issue regarding the PRC to the six communities.

New Delhi: Following widespread protests and violence in Arunachal Pradesh to scrap the recommendations of a high-level committee to grant Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) to six communities, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju here on Monday said the home ministry was in touch with the state government.

Kiren Rijiju said the home ministry was in touch with the state government over the situation in Arunachal Pradesh.

"Home Minister Rajnath Singh and I have spoken to governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd)and chief minister Pema Khandu over the situation in the state," added Rijiju.

He clarified that the state government was unable to communicate the issue regarding the PRC to the six communities. The report of the committee was only coming up for debate in the assembly. The state government has now issued a clarification.

"The state government has informed that three persons have been killed during the violence. I have asked the state government to ensure that those killed during the violence are provided adequate compensation," Rijiju added.
