New Delhi: Days after the declaration of Delhi poll results, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday refused to take any question related to the verdict.

Puri informed that nearly 151 conveyance deeds have been issued so far

Speaking to reporters on the occasion of some residents of Delhi's unauthorised colonies getting conveyance deeds, Puri said, "This is a press conference on conferring ownership rights. If you have any question related to politics or election we can sit some other time. However, I had already tweeted that in the celebration of democracy we congratulate people who have got the verdict."

Prior to Delhi polls, Puri was very vocal against the Kejriwal government. In most of the pre-poll press conferences, he used to accuse the Aam Admi Party (AAP) government of not doing any developmental work.

Interestingly, he had also been claiming that the Delhi Government was creating hurdles for the process of conferring ownership rights to the residents of unauthorised colonies.

Today, however, he claimed that the recently concluded Delhi Assembly Election did not act as a roadblock in letting residents of unauthorised colonies get ownership rights.

"The due permission was taken from poll authorities to give the conveyance deeds during the poll period, as this scheme had been announced before the model code of conduct came into force," Puri said.

In a major decision, the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi facilitated way to give ownership rights to more than 40 lakh citizens residing in 1,731 unauthorised colonies in Delhi.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on Friday handed over conveyance deed to 34 applicants under the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY).

Puri informed that nearly 151 conveyance deeds have been issued so far, and that around 2.15 lakh people have applied online for registration.

Over four lakh people living across at least 1,700 unauthorised colonies in the national capital are expected to benefit from the government's decision.

Officials said that beneficiaries have been applying online for the ownership rights only through the prescribed online system developed by DDA.

"As of now 2,15,942 registration has been done on the application portal," officials said.

Housing Minister Puri, estimated that the entire process of giving ownership rights will be completed in next six months.
