Hand grenade recovered from 7-year-old boy in Delhi

A rusted hand grenade was recovered at Haiderpur village in Delhi. A local shopkeeper informed the police about the incident after which the National Security Guard team had taken possession of the grenade.

New Delhi:An old rusted hand grenade was found in Delhi's Haiderpur locality by a boy while he was playing alongside a canal, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the reports, the office of the Assistant Commissioner of police operation cell got information on Monday that a 7-year-old boy who was playing near a cannel found a bomb like material.

Informing about the incident, an official told that a man who was selling clothes near the cannel saw the grenade in the hand of the minor and informed the police.

"I saw a boy playing near the cannel has a bomb like material in his hand. I asked the minor about the bomb and he said that he get this somewhere near the cannel while playing with his two other friends. Later, I informed the local police and they interrogated the minor," said a shopkeeper who informed the police.

Later, the National Security Guard team had taken possession of the grenade and a probe is underway in the case.

At least 48 people, including a police head constable Ratan Lal and Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma, have died while around 200 people sustained serious injuries in the violence that raged in northeast Delhi.

The communal violence in Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Chand Bagh, Shiv Vihar, Bhajan Pura, Yamuna Vihar, and Mustafabad areas saw pitched battles between the pro-CAA and anti-CAA protestors lasting for over 48 hours.
