Govt must reconsider its decision on JEE, NEET exams: RJD

The RJD has opposed the Narendra Modi government's decision to hold the NEET and the JEE in September, saying it was not in the interest of the students, especially when coronavirus is killing over 1000 people every day in India.

New Delhi: Stressing that opposing the central government's decision to hold the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) next month is not being done 'just for the sake of it', the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has said, "We are only showing solidarity with the students".

Interacting with ETV Bharat here, Manoj Jha, national spokesperson of the RJD, said the central government must understand the situation.

He said the coronavirus situation is far more serious now than it was in March when the entire country was closed and the board exams were put on hold.

"India has over 31 lakh cases of Covid-19 at present. Over 1000 people are dying everyday and you are talking about holding exams," he said, asking if the Narendra Modi government has accepted defeat on the coronavirus front.

'It's not about opposition, it's about students," he asserted, and asked if the Prime Minister is very confident then why schools and colleges are closed in the country.

The decision to hold the competitive exams has been opposed by Congress, TMC, AAP and many other opposition parties.
