New Delhi:The murder of Prince Tewatia inside the Tihar jail on Friday has revived the grim memories of similar murders at the high security jail in the past. Tewatia, who was associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was stabbed with a knife multiple times on Friday afternoon at Tihar Jail No. 3 where he was lodged.
He was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. This is not the first time such an incident at Tihar jail.
Criminal incidents at Tihar jail: Last year, on 15 Dec. criminal Dharamveer died in suspicious circumstances at the jail. Earlier, on 9 July 2022, a prisoner Rajesh was attacked with a knife by other prisoners. The prisoner, however had a close shave in the attack. In the month of May last year, there was a clash between the prisoners and the assistant superintendent of the jail, Avnish Tomar, who came to intervene, was also attacked by the prisoners, in which he was injured.
In 2021, gangster Ankit Gurjar was also murdered in the same jail number 3 in which Prince Tewatia was killed on Friday. According to the jail sources, last month on Mar. 9, the jail administration along with the police force raided the jail. During the raid, 23 surgical blades, drugs, mobiles and many other items were recovered from the prisoners, sources said.
Prince's enmity with gangster Rohit Chowdhary: It is said that Prince Tewatia had enmity with gangster Rohit Chowdhary, who was lodged in Tihar Jail. Prince, a resident of Khanpur area of South Delhi, had studied till 10th standard. It is said that his father used to work in DDA and had enmity with someone.
