Footpath turns into public library in Delhi

After Delhi Police's brutal crackdown on the Jamia Millia students and alleged destruction of property, including the vandalism of the library, the students have started an open-air library.

New Delhi: Unlike traditional libraries, a unique library on a footpath has been started in the country's capital.

The Delhi Police on December 15, 2019, had barged into the Jamia Millia campus, used force on students and allegedly vandalised property, including the library.

The library has since been closed for repairs and remains off-limits to students.

Faced with such a problem, the students of Jamia Millia Islamia came up with the idea of a footpath library comprising of several books, magazines and newspapers.

People have also started donating books for the unique library.

Famous author Arundhati Roy also paid a visit and donated copies of all her works to the library.

The library opens from morning till nightfall and welcomes people of all age group.

It is said that creative thinking increases during times of crisis.

The concept of a 'Footpath Library' and its inception is a testament to this saying.

The idea behind starting a 'Footpath library' is to provide accessibility to students who are protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Ac and want to read in their spare time.
