Over 20 shanties gutted in fire in Delhi's Okhla fire

A fire broke out in Sanjay Colony, in Okhla Phase II area of Delhi during the early hours of Sunday morning. 27 Fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the flames.

New Delhi: More than 20 shanties were gutted after a fire broke out near Harikesh Nagar Metro Station in southeast Delhi's Okhla Phase II in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

No injuries were reported, they said, adding the cause of the fire is being ascertained.

27 Fire tenders are present at the spot, and firefight operations are underway. However, no casualty reported so far.

The blaze broke out in a katran (waste cloth cutting) and later spread to the shanties following which approximately 20-22 shanties were gutted. A truck present at the spot also caught fire, a senior police officer said.

"A call was received at 2 am and 27 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze. No casualty reported so far. Fire operations are still underway," SK Dua, Divisional Fire Officer said.

Dua also informed reporters that the fire was a medium category and the reason for the fire will be determined by the Delhi Police.
