Farmers protest against three agricultural ordinances in New Delhi

Farmers from across the nation held a protest against three ordinances of the Central government at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Monday. They were heard sloganeering and were holding white flags.

New Delhi:Farmers in Haryana and Punjab are up in arms against the ordinances on agriculture promulgated by the Narendra Modi government and likely to be introduced in Parliament's Monsoon Session commencing on Monday.

The Congress has announced that it will oppose the 'anti-farmer' ordinances in the Parliament, while the BJP is seeking discussions with farmers in Haryana.

Why Farmers in Haryana And Punjab Are Protesting

These three ordinances are Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance. The main issue of these agitated farmers against these ordinances is the dismantlement of the minimum support price system for foodgrain procurement.

The farmer believes that the ordinances will lead to the destruction of the peasants and will expose them to the whims of the market forces.

Protest at Jantar Mantar

While speaking to ETV Bharat, Swaraj Abhiyan national president Yogendra Yadav said, "The centre wants to privatise the agriculture sector also. They want to sell the country's core sector to the corporate."

Yadav further added that the farmers will neither get the Minimum Support Price (MSP) nor the price of their crop as per market price as the total control over the agricultural sector would be shifted to the big corporators like Adani Group and Ambai group.

We demand that the Centre takes back three ordinances that have been brought up to privatise agriculture sector, added Yadav.
