New Delhi:An elderly couple, already cured of corona disease, was held hostage in a private hospital in Rohini area in Delhi allegedly for not paying the pending bills.

The incident happened in Jaipur Golden Hospital where the elderly couple was detained by the hospital administration after they refused to pay Rs 1 .65 lakh for their treatment.

The patients have been identified as Natthuram Jain (72) and his wife, Kusumlata Jain (70) of Delhi.

According to the patient's family, the private hospital has given an ultimatum to the senior citizen to either pay Rs 1 .65 lakh or stay hostage at the hospital.

After the matter came into light, the patient was discharged by the hospital. The victim's son then explained how traumatic it was for the family to face these consequences and how the hospital behaved in an inhumane way.

"The elderly man and his wife have been taken hostage since afternoon and they were admitted to this hospital for the treatment of Corona. When the turn of the bill came, they were shocked as the hospital asked for more than 1 lakh 65 thousand rupees from the couple. The authorities of the hospital have treated us very badly and also did not give food to the elderly couple," said Pavan Goyal, a relative of the patient.

"Despite repeated calls, no responsible officer or doctor of the hospital came and also no police officers came to the hospital. Even after 10 o'clock in the night, no one helped us. So then we took the support of the media. After the intervention of the media, the hospital administration let the elderly couple go," he added.
