Earthquake tremors felt in Delhi-NCR

The capital city was hit by tremors late on Thursday night. Tremors were felt in Delhi NCR, Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad.

New Delhi: Tremors were felt in the national capital late on Thursday night. However, the epicenter and the magnitude of the earthquake was not known immediately.

In a tweet, Skymet Weather said: "Earthquake tremors in Delhi NCR. Tremors felt in Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad." Earlier in the day, an earthquake of 3.0 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Jaipur.

According to the Ministry of Earth Sciences' National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake, with a depth of five km, had its epicentre near Alwar district in Rajasthan. It struck at 11.46 p.m.

The tremors prompted people to venture out of their homes in fear. No casualties or damage to properties have been reported so far.

Earthquakes of less than five magnitude are unlikely to cause large-scale damage, unless in case of weak or compromised structures.
