Docs welcome inter-ministerial committee formed to address their grievances

Doctors have welcomed the Centre's move to set up a committee to discuss the Central Act for doctor's security.

New Delhi:A decision was taken by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday to form an inter-ministerial committee to look into the doctor's grievances, and the move has been welcomed by the doctors.

"We are happy that Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has kept his promise. He had assured us that his ministry will form an inter-ministerial committee to look into the matter raised by doctors after an attack on us in West Bengal and other states," said Dr Amrendar Singh Malhi, president of the AIIMS Resident Doctors Association (RDA).

Echoing the same view, a senior member of RDA Dr Sayan Nath said that a stringent law was needed to curb such violent incidents. "We are demanding a law where the culprits could not get bail by giving ₹2000 or so...," said Nath.

"Yes, this is a right step in the right direction," said Dr Rajeev Ranjan, another senior member of RDA AIIMS.

Ever since attacks on doctors started taking place first in West Bengal and subsequently in other places, doctors across India have been demanding a stringent law to deal with such vandalism.
