Anti-CAA, NRC protests mark anniversary

The protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) started a year ago in New Delhi's Shaheen Bagh.

New Delhi:The protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) held in Shaheen Bagh have completed one year today.

The demonstrations started on 15 December 2019 and lasted for 100 days. They came to an end on March 24 in view of the corona epidemic.

Due to the demonstration, the main road connecting Delhi, Noida and Faridabad was disrupted affecting millions of people of Delhi NCR. The issue of road blockades became so big that it had to be heard by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had appointed negotiators to talk to the protesters.

Since a large number of women folk showed support for the cause, the agitation was called the women's movement. Through this movement, the government was appealed to withdraw the CAA.
