Demonetisation was attack on India's unorganized economy: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi on Thursday in one of his videos on social media lashed out at the Centre alleging that demonetisation ruined India's unorganised economy. He further enlisted all the financial challenges India had to face because of demonetisation.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, made a scathing attack on Central government in his video series and alleged that demonetisation has resulted in economic tragedy that the country is facing for the first time in 40 years.

"Demonetisation was an attack on India's poor, its farmers, labourers and small shopkeepers. Demonetisation was an attack on India's unorganised economy," added the Congress leader.

Rahul Gandhi released the second part of his video series on all of his social media platforms, named "Notebandi ki Baat", where he spoke about the effect of demonetisation over Indian economy. "Modi ji's 'Cashless India' is basically 'Farmer-Labourer-Small businessman-less' India," he tweeted.

While questioning Center over the aim of demonetisation, Gandhi said, "The notes of ₹500 and ₹1000 were made useless. The whole India stood in front of banks. People deposited money in their bank. The first question is, did it erase black money? No. Secondly, what was the benefit of demonetization for the poor people of India? The answer is- nothing."

He further alleged that the advantage of demonetisation was being given to India's "biggest billionaires" by waiving off the debts of 50 crony capitalists through the money of common people of this country.

"The second goal was to wipe out cash from the system. Our informal sector, which is the sector of unorganised economy, runs on cash. The Prime Minister himself said that he wanted a cashless India. However, if there is cashless India, the informal sector will be destroyed." Gandhi added.

The Congress leader claimed that due to the Center's move of demonetisation, the farmers, labourers, small shopkeepers, small and medium businesses had to suffer as they are completely dependent on cash.

"Demonetisation was an attack on India's unorganized economy and we must recognize this attack. The entire country will have to fight against it together," he said.
