Delhi woman writes to British PM threatening suicide, rescued by cops

The Delhi police rescued a woman within two hours of her writing an email to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, threatening suicide. The woman was facing family and financial problems, and has now been sent to hospital for treatment.

New Delhi: A woman from the national capital, who was going through family and financial problems, wrote an email to the British Prime Minister saying she would take her own life within two hours. As soon as this mail was received, the British Prime Minister's Office and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs came into action and with the help of Delhi Police, the woman was tracked and admitted to hospital for treatment.

According to DCP PK Mishra, on August 26, a woman living in Rohini Sector-21 sent a mail to the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson asking for help. The way she narrated her problem in the mail showed that she was upset. She also said that if she does not get help in two hours, she would take the extreme step.

The mail was immediately sent to the Indian Embassy in London which contacted officials of the Ministry of External Affairs expressing apprehension that the woman might take the extreme step.

Police tracked down the woman in two hours

Aman Vihar police station was informed about the woman, following which a team of police officials including inspector Satyapal Singh, SHO Raghuvir Singh and ACP Atul Varma set out in her search of the woman. It was difficult to track her down as she was not taking phone calls.

The police began door-to-door search at around 1 am in the night. Security guards were questioned and after two hours of intensive search the police finally found the woman's residence.

As the woman was refusing to open the door, fire brigade personnel were called in, who broke open the door in ten minutes. The woman reportedly ordered the police and fire brigade staff to go back.

Woman was upset over broken marriage and financial crisis

The woman's house was soon surrounded by policemen and an ambulance was deployed. During counselling, the woman revealed that she was a teacher in a municipal school. However, she quit the job for personal reasons. Her husband had divorced her. She said she had taken a loan and was unable to pay the installments. She was in great trouble and therefore she wrote the letter to the British Prime Minister.

Woman sent for treatment

Police realised during counselling that the woman was facing problems within her family. First, she had to face marital problems and thereafter financial problems. Two psychologists and one doctor were also summoned to the spot who informed the above to the magistrate after examining her. The court ordered to shift the woman to a hospital for treatment.
