TV journalists attacked in northeast Delhi, one serious
A journalist with JK 24X7 news received a bullet injury and two reporters from NDTV were beaten and punched by rioters in northeast Delhi, which was hit by fresh violence on Tuesday.
Akash sustained a bullet injury while covering the communal clashes in Maujpur locality and is in hospital where his condition is serious, said a tweet from JK 24X7 channel.
NDTV said its journalist Arvind Gunasekar was hit by rioters while he was at one of the spots in northeast Delhi and lost a tooth. His fellow reporter, Saurabh, who tried to shield him, was punched, it said.
Many other journalists took to social media to share tales of how they were heckled and some alleged they were questioned about their religious identity.

3 districts in northeast Delhi on 'high alert'
Three districts in northeast Delhi were put on high alert on Tuesday after tension prevailing there since the last three days intensified.
A top official from Delhi Police Headquarters told reporters, "Since section 144 imposed in northeast Delhi failed to control the situation, we have decided to put three districts on high alert. Security has been beefed up in northeast as well as east Delhi and Shahdara district."
A Delhi police DCP said now the reserve police force in the police stations is also there to support us alongwith the paramilitary forces. However, around 50 armed policemen are still in the police stations so that the miscreants don't target the police stations.

Death toll climbs to nine
The death toll rose to nine on Tuesday due to violence over the amended citizenship law that has rocked northeast Delhi, GTB Hospital authorities said.
Four people were declared brought dead by doctors at the hospital on Tuesday, they said.
Thirty-five injured people were also brought to the hospital, the authorities added.
"Fifty per cent of those injured sustained bullet injuries," a doctor at the hospital said.
On Monday, the violence claimed lives of five people, including Delhi Police head constable Ratan Lal.

Over 15 people sustain bullets wounds during violence over CAA
Casualties were piling up at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital amid violent clashes between pro- and anti-CAA protesters in northeast Delhi.
One of the doctors at the hospital who treated the injured told reporters that more than 15 people have sustained bullet injuries.
GTB Hospital has confirmed five deaths till Tuesday. Speaking with reporters, Dr Rajesh Kalra, Additional Medical Superintendent of the hospital said "we have received a total of 93 injured persons and there are five deaths as of now. Fresh data will be released by tonight."
Dr Kalra also said "mostly they are blunt trauma injuries and firearm injuries. One is a petrol victim also. Most minor injuries but 2 to 3 persons were operated on Monday and few more to be operated today."

Five stations on Delhi Metro's Pink Line remain shut
Five stations on the Delhi Metro's Pink Line remained closed for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in the wake of the violence in northeast Delhi areas.

Schools in northeast Delhi to remain closed on Tuesday: Deputy CM
All schools in northeast Delhi will remain closed on Tuesday after violence in the area intensified on Monday.
As per the information, exams for class 12 in four vocational subjects in 18 centres in west Delhi will be conducted as per schedule, as there are no centres in the northeast Delhi for this exam.
The Delhi government demanded the suspension of the board examinations in the schools in these areas. In addition to the 10th and 12th board exams, the school examinations up to class 11 have been postponed as of now.
After the violence following the clashes between pro and anti-CAA groups on Sunday intensified on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said there will be no school home examinations on Tuesday in the violence-hit areas and all government and private schools will remain closed.
However, the board exams of class 10 and 12 are beyond the control of Delhi government.
The Delhi government is concerned over the first board exam - English - of class 10 scheduled for Wednesday.
Regarding the board exams, Sisodia said: "I have spoken to Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ''Nishank'' that board examinations in this district should also be postponed. As of now, the Ministry has not taken any decision."
Commenting on the violence, he said: "I have been in Delhi for last three decades but never felt so scared in my own city. Who are the people setting Delhi on fire? Very sad and ashamed today. This is our Delhi. It is the capital of the country. We have to save it."

The Delhi Metro on Monday opened four stations after they were closed for nearly an hour owing to a protest call given by students against the violence in northeast Delhi.

"I just spoke to the LG. He has assured that more police forces are being sent. Violence will not be tolerated by anyone. I request people to maintain peace. No solution will come out of violence," Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.
In another tweet, he said,"The death of a head constable is very sad. He was also one of us. Please give up violence. Nobody benefits from violence. All problems will be solved peacefully, he said in another tweet.
Violence was also reported in northeast Delhi's Chandbagh and Bhajanpura areas.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Baijal to restore law and order in the wake of the violence.
"Very distressing news regarding disturbance of peace and harmony in parts of Delhi coming in.
"I sincerely urge Hon'ble LG n Hon'ble Union Home Minister to restore law and order n ensure that peace and harmony is maintained. Nobody should be allowed to orchestrate flagrations (sic)," Kejriwal said in his earlier tweet.

Delhi police appeals to people to maintain peace
Delhi Police appealed to the people to maintain peace and not to believe in rumours in the wake of violence in parts of northeast Delhi during protests for and against the new citizenship law.
Prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC, which bans the assembly of four or more people, have been imposed in those areas of northeast Delhi that witnessed violence.
"Some incidents of violence and arson have been reported in areas of North East District, particularly in the areas of Maujpur, Kardampuri, Chand Bagh and Dayalpur.
"It is appealed to the people of Delhi and particularly to the North East District to maintain peace and harmony and not to believe in any rumours. It is also appealed to the media not to circulate any disturbing pictures which may further aggravate the situation," the police said.
Delhi Police is making every effort to restore normalcy, it said.
"Section 144 has been imposed in the affected areas of North East district and strict action will be taken against miscreants and anti social elements," they added.

LG instructs police commissioner to maintain law and order
Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal instructed the police commissioner to maintain law and order in the national capital in the wake of violence during clashes in northeast Delhi.
"Instructed @DelhiPolice and @CPDelhi to ensure that law and order is maintained in North East Delhi. The situation is being closely monitored. I urge everyone to exercise restraint for maintenance of peace and harmony," Baijal tweeted.

135 civilians, 56 policemen injured; 11 FIRs filed: Delhi police PRO
New Delhi:A Delhi Police head constable was killed during clashes over the new citizenship law in northeast Delhi on Monday, a senior officer said.
Ratan Lal was attached to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gokulpuri, he said.
Several police personnel have been injured in the clashes, he said.
Several vehicles, shops and houses were torched on Monday, a day after clashes broke out between those against and for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
