Delhi turns into fortress in view of Republic Day

Foolproof security arrangements have been made in Delhi in view of the Republic Day functions. Delhi Metro has also made special arrangements to ensure the safety and security of the commuters.

New Delhi: In view of Republic Day functions on January 26, security arrangements have been beefed up across the national capital. Delhi Metro train, which is used by lakhs of commuters on daily basis, has also been secured by deploying a large number of security personnel on all entry and exit points, and round the clock, a vigil is also being maintained with the help of CCTV surveillance, official sources said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Vikram Porwal told ETV Bharat here that all Delhi Metro stations have been secured by security personnel of Delhi Police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

"We have made teams of security personnel. They would guard not only the entry-exit points but platforms too," he said, adding that some plainclothes security personnel would travel in Metro coaches also.

Security beefed up in Delhi Metro

On being asked about long queues at entry points, he said in order to ensure foolproof security people were being checked thoroughly and this has resulted in the long queues.

"I would request the commuters to bear it for a few days as it was being done for their own safety and security," he said.

Talking about the stations that would be partially closed on the Republic Day, Porwal said Udyog Vihar, Central Secretariat, Lok Kalyan Marg and Patel Chowk Metro stations would be shut from 0800 to 1200 hours.

"Other stations such as Lal Qila, ITO and others would be closed for a while as the Republic Day parade proceed," he said.
