Delhi: 6 of a family held in 'honour killing' case

On the night of 18 February, Sheetal was strangulated to death by her mother and father. They put the body of Sheetal in a white SUV car and took it to Aligarh and later disposed of it in a canal there. During the investigation, police analysed the entire case and interrogated the family members separately and during interrogation, they accepted that they had killed their daughter.

New Delhi: At least six persons of a family were arrested by Delhi police for alleged honour killing a 25 -year-old woman in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar on Saturday.

The deceased woman has been identified as Sheetal Chaudhary, a resident of New Ashok Nagar.

The accused persons have been identified as the deceased's mother, Suman, father, Ravindra, two uncles Sanjay and Om Prakash, uncle's son Parvesh, and son-in-law Ankit.

According to the police, the accused persons disposed of the body in Aligarh, around 80 km from Delhi. The body was found by UP police on January 30.

According to sources, Sheetal was in love with one Ankit Bhati, who lives in the same neighbourhood. They were in a relationship for the past three years and had got married at Arya Samaj temple in October 2019.

However, Sheetal's entire family pressurised her to leave Ankit but Sheetal refused.

When Bhati called her and found her phone switched off, he got suspicious and lodged a kidnapping case at New Ashok Nagar police station.

During preliminary investigation, police reached the house of Sheetal and enquired about her, but the family told them that she had gone to her uncle’s house.

Later, police analysed the entire case and interrogated the family members separately and during interrogation, they accepted their crime.

A case of murder was registered against six persons and further investigation is on, sources added.
