New Delhi:The Delhi Police's Special Cell on Friday nabbed two members of an ATM-lifting gang following an encounter at Haryana's Mewat area.
The gang had lifted as many as seven ATMs from various location of Delhi in the past six months.
Special Cell's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pramod Kushwaha informed that on August 14, the police had received information that the gang members involved in the ATM liftings were hiding at Rithath village under Mewat Police Station limits.
When the police team raided the village, they asked the accused Ahmed to surrender. However, he opened fire at the cops. A crowd then gathered at the spot and surrounded the police team. The police team were then attacked by sticks and stones, while Ahmed's accomplice Saddam too opened fire.
However, the police team retaliated, and Ahmad sustained a bullet injury in the gunfight.
In the firing, an ASI of the Mewt police too sustained injuries. However, he was discharged after availing treatment at a hospital.
