New Delhi: At a time when hygiene at eateries is extremely important in wake of COVID-19, a man complained of finding a dead lizard in his food at a popular South Indian restaurant in the national capital.

The man, Pankaj Agarwal, recorded a video after he found a dead lizard in his bowl of sambar at the Saravana Bhavan restaurant in Connaught Place.

In the video, Agarwal said that he had come to the restaurant for dinner with his friends on August 1.

Agarwal said that he had ordered dosas, and halfway through his meal realised that there was a dead lizard in his bowl of sambar.

He said that the management just apologised and gave assurance that such things would not happen in the future.

The man then informed the police, following which a team from the Connaught Place police station arrived at the restaurant and collected food sample.

Agarwal said that the police told him that action could be taken against the restaurant only when the report of the food sample arrives. The restaurant continues to remain functional as of now.

Meanwhile, based on the man's complaint, the police filed a case against the restaurant under sections 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection) and 336 (endangering human life or personal safety) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Saravana Bhavan is a popular chain of restaurants with dozens of outlets across the globe.
