New Delhi:The Delhi High Court has given a green signal to the Delhi Government to divert ration delivery to cardholders at doorsteps if there is no shortage in fair price shops.

A bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Jasmeet Singh said that home delivery of ration can be done to those who have opted for home delivery instead of fair price shops.

Noting the contention of the Delhi government that a large number of people have opted to get ration at home, the bench said the supply of ration in fair price shops will have to be reduced and asked the AAP government to share the list of cardholders who opted home delivery option to the fair price shops dealers before delivering the ration.

The court also noted the suggestion of the Delhi government that the option of taking ration from fair price shops will remain open to the cardholders seeking home delivery.

The court was hearing a petition by the Delhi Government Ration Dealers Association stating that the scheme has been approved by ignoring the licensed fair price dealers. The petition also added that the necessary amendments have not been done in the National Food Security Act to implement this scheme.

The association has also asked to cancel the tender- delivering ration from godown to home-issued by the Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation.

The Delhi government had announced the scheme on 21 July 2020. Under which packets of wheat, flour, rice and sugar will be delivered directly to the homes of the beneficiaries.
