The CEC meeting was held on Thursday under the leadership of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, at her residence in Delhi.

Senior party leaders including KC Venugopal, Ahmed Patel, Mukul Wasnik, PC Chako, Rajiv Satav, Subhash Chopra, AK Antony were also present during the meeting.

As per the sources, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi wants senior party leaders of Delhi Congress to contest the upcoming Assembly elections. Those leaders who have contested Lok Sabha elections, but were not able to win, may also likely to get a chance in the Delhi polls.

"We want best candidates to contest the elections. These senior leaders have given so many years for the welfare of the party. Their experience would be required for the upcoming elections," said Subhash Chopra.

As per the reports, 15 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, who have been denied for re-nomination are in contact with the DPCC Chief, and likely to join the party soon.

In a setback for Alka Lamba, who was eyeing to the party ticket from Chandni Chowk in the assembly polls, former DPCC chief and ex-MP JP Aggarwal has claimed to contest election from the same seat.

Apparently, JP Aggarwal has proposed to contest the election from Chandni Chowk during a meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi as the party chief also wants senior leaders to come forward.

While speaking to ETV Bharat, JP Aggarwal claimed that he'll accept whatever decision will be taken by the Congress President and all party members are "equal."

"We can't deny the directions given by our party chief. We'll accept whatever decision she'll take. All party members are equal and we'll contest elections unitedly," said JP Aggarwal. However, he refused to comment over the seat from where he would contest elections.

While commenting over the issue, Subhash Chopra said, "I agree that people have some feelings attached to particular seats. There are proposals of 10 candidates for one seat but the ticket can only be given to one candidate. So there is no meaning of clash over such issues. We'll fight these elections together."
