New Delhi:Delhi's Karkardooma Court has deferred the hearing on the bail plea of Sharjeel Imam- accused in the Delhi violence case-due to the unavailability of Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat on Monday. The next hearing into the matter has been scheduled for September 28.
During the hearing on September 2, Amit Prasad, Special Public Prosecutor, appearing for Delhi Police, had said that speaking against the Citizenship Amendment Act and NRC in Asansol on 22 January 2020, Imam had challenged the sovereignty of the country and tried to disturb the sentiments of Muslims.
Prasad said "the riots in Delhi broke just four weeks after his derogatory speech in Asansol and Jharkhand. While speaking in Jharkhand on January 20, Sharjeel had stated that the anger of people should be used. He gave the thesis of the riot and he knew how to bring it to the end."
