New Delhi:The Congress on Monday attacked Narendra Modi-led Union government BJP-ruled Maharastra over farmer suicides.
Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak said that the conditions of farmers under Modi rule are the same as they were under British rule.
Raising the issue of farmer suicide at a press conference, she said, "Around 12,800 farmers had committed suicide in Maharashtra under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime led by CM Devendra Fadnavis."
"The government is disinterested in farmers and the media is silent" she claimed.
Cong attacks Modi-govt over farmer suicides in Maharashtra Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls to be held on October 21, she said, "A 38-year-old farmer hanged himself in Maharastra's Buldana wearing BJP t-shirt."
"The incident of the suicide of a farmer in Maharashtra shows the difference between BJP's work and action," she added.
Slamming centre over the economic slowdown, Ragini Nayak said that even the Economist Parakala Prabhakar, who is Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's husband said that the BJP government has not shown willingness to frame its new policies.
The voting for the 288-member Assembly will be held on October 21 in a single phase. The counting of votes will take place on October 24.
