New Delhi: The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested a 36-year-old owner of a coaching centre in connection with the Northeast Delhi riots in February, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Police claim the accused, Tasleem Ahmad, a resident of South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, was closely associated with activist Gulfisha, who was earlier arrested on the same charges of criminal conspiracy.

Taslim Ahmad was first arrested by the Zafarabad Police in the last week of April but was granted bail two weeks later. The Delhi Police Special Cell called him for questioning, following which he was arrested.

After arrest, he was produced in a court in Delhi from where he has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days. The special cell will now interrogate him in the case related to the riots.

Police believe he was allegedly part of a conspiracy to rally protesters for the sit-in against the new citizenship law under Jafrabad Metro station.
