Citizenship of every Indian is safe, no need to worry: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has appealed to people to maintain peace in the wake of protest against the CAA. He said no one would loose his/her citizenship as was being told by the opposition parties. He also told Muslims to not worry about citizenship, saying that have a major role in building the nation.

New Delhi: Urging people not to indulge in violence and stay away from the protest against CAA, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday said citizenship of Indians is safe and there's no danger of any kind to anyone, especially to Muslims in the country.

Interacting with the ETV Bharat here, the Minister for Minority Affair said the on-going protest against the amended citizenship law is 'saddening and unfortunate'.

"I want to appeal to everyone to stay away from violence. I want to tell Muslims of the country that you have a major contribution to building this nation. No one would lose his/her citizenship," he said.

The BJP leader also slammed the opposition parties for 'misleading' the people on the issue of CAA and NRC.

Meanwhile, there have been massive protests against the citizenship law in different parts of the country. Protesters have clashed with police.

In Delhi, Jama Masjid became the centre point with police detaining Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad during a march. He, however, escaped.

The situation across neighbouring Uttar Pradesh remained tense.

Hundreds of protesters have been detained across the country with reports saying that two of them died in Meerut.
