North, Central India to witness intense heatwave: IMD

Several parts of India is likely to witness heatwaves in the coming days, with maximum temperature expected to hover at 45-degree Celsius. Weather experts stated that heat waves are likely to last till May end. Previous heatwaves of the season in the northern part of India were reportedly broken by thunderstorms.

New Delhi:Most of the central and northern parts of India is likely to witness intense heatwave in the coming days, with the maximum temperature expected to touch 45-degree Celsius, predicts the Indian Meteorological Department.

"Heatwave conditions are likely in several parts of Vidarbha and in pockets of East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat state, Central Maharashtra and Marathwada in coming days," the India Meteorological Department stated in its advisory on Thursday.

Weather experts believe that these heatwaves are likely to continue till May end.

"Previous heatwaves in north India were broken by thunderstorms, which also brought winds and flash flood but the new heatwave condition is expected to last for entire May," said Accuweather, a private weather forecasting agency.

Today, the minimum and maximum temperatures of the national capital will be around 28 degree Celsius and 42-degree Celsius with humidity oscillating between 30 percent to 39 percent.

However, there is a respite for southern India as heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Besides, a heavy downpour is also likely to hit some parts of Assam and Meghalaya.
