Braille laptops to make digital world easier for visually impaired

New Braille laptops, named as DotBook have been launched by IIT Delhi for visually impaired people.

New Delhi: In a bid to make the digital world much easier for the visually impaired people, IIT Delhi has launched a new range of braille laptops on Wednesday. The product christened as DotBook is touted to be the country's first braille laptop and have seen the light after five years of hard work and research.

IIT Delhi's Professor Balakrishnan said, "Keeping in mind issues such as social inclusiveness, education and employment, the DotBook will definitely usher in positive change among the community of visually impaired people."

He further said that apart from IIT Delhi, these laptops have been prepared in collaboration with Critical Solutions (Noida), Phoenix Medical System (Chennai) and Saksham & Wellcome Trust (Delhi).

Two versions of DotBook have been launched in the market. The basic and high-end versions - DotBook 20 P and DotBook 40 Q are affordably priced at Rs 40000 and Rs 60000 respectively.

Both versions do not have a screen. The visually impaired students, who were present on this occasion, tested the laptops.
