New Delhi: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Shiv Pratap Shukla has said that the party is "fully ready" for the monsoon session of parliament, which is likely to start from August-end or first week of September.

Shukla, who was recently appointed as chairman of the Ethics Committee of Rajya Sabha, told ETV Bharat here that BJP has answers for all questions that the opposition parties may raise during the upcoming session of parliament.

"It's the duty of the opposition to question the government. We are fully ready to answer," he said, adding that the opposition sometimes raises ridiculous questions.

Talking about the issues which are likely to be raised in the session ahead, he said the Narendra Modi government has been handling the coronavirus situation well. It has also given a befitting reply to Chinese aggression in Ladakh.

To a query on political instability in Rajasthan, he said the BJP has nothing to do with it. "It's basically the Congress which has failed to handle its own MLAs and leaders in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan".

Meanwhile, preparations are on to hold parliament session amid coronavirus crisis. Efforts are being made to ensure that the disease, which has disrupted the world, does not get spread by holding the parliament session.

Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die on March 23, nearly two weeks before schedule, as the budget session was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The budget session commenced on January 31 and was scheduled to conclude on April 3. Both the Houses adjourned for recess on February 11, and reassembled on March 2.

The first part of the Budget Session yielded a total of nine sittings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and in the second part, there were 14 sittings of both the Houses.

Few days ago, the Congress also demanded that a session of Parliament be convened as soon as possible to enable discussion on key issues like the COVID-19 situation, the Sino-India standoff at the border and the state of the economy in the country. Senior Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken said a way should be found out soon to hold a session of the Parliament.

"There are so many issues concerning the country and a way should be found out to call a Parliament session," he told media at a virtual press conference.
