BJD to support Om Birla for Lok Sabha Speaker post

BJP MLA and two-time MP from Rajasthan's Kota, Om Birla, is likely to become the next Lok Sabha speaker. The proposal of the same was submitted by the saffron party and the opposition has accepted his candidature. However, an official announcement in this regard is awaited.

New Delhi: Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) MLA Om Birla is all set to become the next Speaker for the 17th Lok Sabha. This decision has been taken during BJP's Parliamentary meeting held here, on Tuesday.

Odisha's ruling Biju Janta Dal (BJD) has decided to support BJP-led NDA's candidate for the post of Lok Sabha speaker.

After the meeting, BJD's Parliamentary party leader, Pinaki Mishra informed the media about the Party's decision to extend support to NDA's candidate for the post of Lok Sabha speaker.

Earlier today, the party's choice was confirmed by Amita Birla, the wife of Om Birla."It is a very proud and a happy moment for us. We are very thankful to the cabinet for choosing him," she was media.

BJP has submitted the proposal of suggesting the name of Birla, two-time MP from Rajasthan's Kota for the post of Lok Sabha speaker.

The official announcement of the decision is still awaited.
