New Delhi:The diplomatic fire over Citizenship Amendment Act is refusing to die down. In the latest, Bangladesh Deputy Foreign Minister Shahriar Alam will not be visiting New Delhi to take part in the Raisina dialogue scheduled to happen from January 14-16.

This is the fourth time in less than one month that a member of the Sheikh Hasina administration has cancelled his visit at the last moment. Earlier Bangladesh Foreign Minister, Home Minister, and water talks delegation cancelled their India visit.

ETV Bharat has learnt from sources that Bangladesh Deputy Foreign Minister Shahriar Alam will be accompanying his PM Sheikh Hasina in her UAE visit. Things between New Delhi and Dhaka haven't been right since the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill from both houses of parliament last month.

Sheikh Hasina’s foreign policy adviser Gowher Rizvi had said that if India can establish the citizenship of Bangladeshis, allegedly residing in India illegally then Dhaka will take them back. However, New Delhi has not informed Dhaka of anything about the Bangladeshis living in India.

Though New Delhi has assured Dhaka that CAA doesn't affect any country directly. It is only a way of providing citizenship to the persecuted minorities from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The CAA became a headache for the Modi administration as people from all walks of life have taken to streets against it. They accuse the government of damaging ethos of the constitution by adding religion into it.
