New Delhi:Following AIIMS' unsuccessful attempts to gather volunteers for the phase 3 of the human trial of the indigenously built vaccine 'Covaxin', the doctors of the facility themselves have come forward to get the vaccine tested on themselves. This is an attempt to prove to people that the vaccine does not have any side effects and to encourage them for volunteering as only 500 of the required 1500 volunteers have been registered.
Amid the news of emergence of new deadlier strains of coronavirus, besides Moderna and Pfizer, India's Covaxin made in a joint venture by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Bharat Biotech is also expected to be out soon, the final stage trials of which are currently going on in AIIMS, Delhi.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Gurjar, Assistant Professor in the Geriatric Department of AIIMS was among the doctors who volunteered for the vaccine trial and got a does of Covaxin on Tuesday.
After taking the vaccine, Dr. Vijay appealed to people to be part of this final stage trial, saying that the vaccine is completely safe and has no side effects. Therefore, people must be a part of this trial.
