Ahead of Delhi Assembly polls, Congress rules out alliance with AAP

In the run-up to the Assembly polls scheduled to be held early next year in Delhi, Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak said her party would go solo, thus ruling out any alliance with the AAP.

New Delhi: After the prospect of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party fighting the Lok Sabha polls together failed, the Congress on Tuesday ruled out any alliance with the AAP for the upcoming Assembly polls in Delhi.

Responding to a question by ETV Bharat on chances of an alliance with AAP at a press conference today, Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak said, "In the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, Opposition parties felt there was a need for parties to unite against divisive powers. We did try in Delhi as well, but things did not work out."

"However, as far as the Assembly polls are concerned, Congress will go solo," she added, ruling out an alliance with the AAP.

"Yes, Congress is not doing extremely well in some regions of the country, but no election means the end of the road for us. We will keep working hard, and will do better than expected in Delhi," she said.

The AAP had registered a landslide victory in the previous Assembly election, as it won 67 of the 70 Assembly seats in 2015. The Congress drew a blank, while the BJP managed to win the remaining three seats.
