41 transport associations protest against MV Act '19

A protest was staged by 41 transport associations from across North India against the amendments in the newly imposed Motor Vehicles act 2019. Members of the United Front of Transport Association will meet Union Road Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today with their set of demands.

New Delhi:Transport associations from across North India staged a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar against the amendments in the newly imposed Motor Vehicles act 2019.

41 associations gathered and chanted slogans against the authorities demanding revocation of the act.

While speaking exclusively with ETV Bharat, Chairman of United Front of Transport Association, Harish Sabharwal condemned the newly imposed act. He even called the increased penalties for flouting any traffic rules as a mindless move. He blamed both Union and Delhi governments for failing to provide any business security to transport operators.

He said, "At a time when our economy is in such a bad shape and we were somehow managing to do our businesses, they brought this act. Now, because of this, insurance premiums have increased. Prices of spare parts were already high as GST has been included in it. But our fares are still the same."

They will talk about the reimplementation of the old traffic rules.

Association has decided to go on a nationwide bandh on September 19 if their demands are not met.

Both houses of parliament passed the Motor Vehicle Amendment bill 2019 in the last concluded session. After getting Presidential assent, the MV act was implemented on September 1. In the first five days of its implementation, nearly Rs. 1.4 crore of traffic fines were collected.
